IF
HEALING IS AVAILABLE FOR ALL: THEN WHY AREN’T ALL HEALED?
16 When
evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast
out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, 17 that it might be fulfilled which was
spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: "He Himself took our infirmities And
bore our sicknesses." Matthew 8:16-17
God is good!
Extremely good! Extravagantly good! All the time.
Then why isn’t
everyone healed? Before attempting to give my limited insight into this
question, let me begin by saying, the problem of healing is never on God’s end
of the equation. It is always on our end. While this is addressed directly to
men and women of God, I realize many teach these articles to their congregants
and students. Therefore, please use wisdom in doing so with any article or
teaching, as there are some things that we speak forthrightly to those of
maturity – that is, you ministers. Meat is for the mature; and milk is for
babies or the immature, therefore know who you are speaking to and what is
“legal” to share, and what is not.
Personally
speaking, I have always struggled with this issue. It is easy for someone to
say; “be it unto you according to your faith” – and then when they are not
healed blame it on their lack of faith. Faith is vitally important, however, I
am convinced the greatest faith is to be on the end of the one who ministers to
the sick. Yes. Jesus told the woman with the issue of blood, “Your
faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.”
Mark 5:34 – Nevertheless, in Mark 9:14-29, it is Jesus’ faith that
overrides the unbelief of the father whose son is tormented by a demon. The
father asks Jesus to help his unbelief. So, we are not going to downplay the
issue of someone’s faith, nevertheless, faith for many has turned into
something other than “faith”.
I have met those
who at this moment are dying with their sickness and disease, who declare they
are standing staunchly in their faith for a miracle. In actual fact, what the
Lord has shown me is what many are calling their “faith” is nothing more
than an attempt to manipulate and control God into what they want Him to do.
Faith doesn’t tell God how, when and where to do something. Faith believes God
is faithful and true, and His throne is established on righteousness and
justice, therefore, whatever the King decrees is right. Period! (Revelation
19:11 – Psalm 89:14)
Recently a woman told me while
ministering to her family to “heal her son of diabetes” – to which I
replied, “Jesus knows.” What I didn’t say was: Jesus had already showed me
this was something that was diet controlled. This isn’t a spirit, or a
sickness, it is a consequence of “sowing and reaping”. Change the diet and
the diabetes goes, just like it came. However, it requires bringing the
“flesh” under subjection to the Spirit.
This is a reason
why some are not healed: they are just reaping what they have sown. It is a
consequence of their personal choices. In this case eating non- healthy foods.
I will quickly go
through a list of things the Lord recently showed me regarding why some are not
healed.
- Sowing
and reaping: Galatians 6:7-8 do
not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will
also reap. 8 For
he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who
sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.
- Unforgiveness:
Those who harbor and hold fast to unforgiveness toward another will
themselves suffer accordingly. Physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Mark 11:25-26 "And
whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive
him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. 26 But if you do not
forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses."
- Unconfessed
sin: Simply put: living in a compromised sinful lifestyle.
Psalm 66:18 - If I regard iniquity
in my heart, The Lord will not hear.
Why some die
before their appointed time: (Note: I said “some” NOT “all”)
- The
judgment of God: Ananias and Sapphira his wife tested God to see how far
they could go in an attempt to deceive the apostle Peter. Answer: Not very
far. (Acts 5:1-11) Paul addressed an immorality issue in the Corinthian
church by telling them turn the man over to satan to kill him. 1 Corinthians
5:4-5 - In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when you are gathered
together, along with my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, 5 deliver
such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be
saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
- God
“picks them at their peak”. Even in God’s goodness He will pick
someone when their heart is right before Him, knowing their end will be
worse than their beginning. I know this is a struggle for some to swallow,
nevertheless, this is what Jesus showed me with chapter and verse: Isaiah
57:1 New Living Translation: 1 The
righteous pass away; the godly often die before their time. And no one seems
to care or wonder why. No one seems to understand that God is protecting
them from the evil to come.
- “Touching
God’s Anointed”: “Do not
touch my anointed ones, and do my prophets no harm” 1
Ch 16:11 & Psalm 105:15 – This is where you must use caution in
delivering your message. We never want to appear that we “think
more highly of ourselves than we ought.”
(Romans 12:3)
I
would like to relay here some personal experiences of which I am aware: Back in
the early 1970’s, I was a teenager at a church in which I would later (1989)
become an associate pastor to the senior pastor of the church. An issue arose
regarding something the Lord had told the pastor to do regarding the church.
Five men stood firmly against him. They were all in leadership positions, in
this case, they were deacons, and as we discussed last week not biblically
positioned over a pastor, only denominationally.
What the pastor
had proposed from the Lord was “shot down” by these men and did not allow
the man of God to fulfill the Lord’s directive. Within an 18-month time span
all five of these men died. Most of these men were only 40 & 50 years of
age.
Another, closer
to home, incident occurred when a man continued to run his former pastor down to
anyone who would listen. He was bitter, resentful and angry. Much of what he was
telling was false, however, he believed it to be true. He even confronted the
former pastor a few years later and said some things directly to him. The man of
God wanting to correct him was muzzled by the Holy Spirit and told him “not to
open his mouth in response.” A year later the man, in his fifties, had a heart
attack and died suddenly. Right in the middle of his bitter dialogue of
“touching God’s anointed.”
I also have met a
man of God in another country from my own that was falsely accused of drug
trafficking. He was arrested and imprisoned. A short time later he was cleared
of all charges, nevertheless, all of the men with the exception of one died soon
thereafter. What kept the “one” alive? He went to the man of God, repented,
and asked forgiveness for his part in the malicious plot to bring the man of God
down.
Bottom line: God
is serious about “touch not” His anointed. Why? Because they are His! There
is a strong warning in 2 Peter 2:10 & 12 against those who speak evil of his
servants…“they are presumptuous,
self willed, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries (literally
“glorious ones)…but these like natural brute beasts made to be caught and
destroyed speak evil of the things they do not understand, and will perish in
their own corruption.”
- Ignorance
– Hosea 4:6 –
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Many
examples could be given here, however, I will only post one. Evil spirits of
infirmity can come upon a believer’s body, (not spirit) such as cancer,
and a host of other debilitating diseases without a cure. These must be
“cast out” not “prayed out”. Matthew 8:16 –“When evening had come,
they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the
spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick”
- God
Alone Knows – Deuteronomy 29:29 - The
secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are
revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the
words of this law.
In no way is this
remotely an “all inclusive list.” It is just a few things the Lord has shown
me. We always focus on “God will” not “God might.” Signs, wonders,
healings & miracles follow the man of God. The Lord said to me this very
morning, “Will you truly be a ‘man of God’? Or, a ‘man of people’?”
Let’s make it
our aim with everything within us to be men of God, for the purpose of loving,
and effectively serving Gods people.
My
love and embrace,
Eddie
